Fee Transparency
On-time unsealing is always $0. The only fee is the Commitment Fee — and it's always capped.

Early unseal fee (capped)
The fee is 3.5% of the amount you unseal early, but never more than the cap for your balance tier.
| Envelope balance | Fee rate | Max fee |
|---|---|---|
| Under $500 | 3.5% | $25 |
| $500 – $2,499 | 3.5% | $50 |
| $2,500 – $9,999 | 3.5% | $75 |
| $10,000+ | 3.5% | $150 |
What you actually pay to unseal early at different amounts.
Unseal $200 early
3.5% × $200 = $7.00 → cap is $25
You pay: $7.00
Unseal $800 early
3.5% × $800 = $28.00 → cap is $50
You pay: $28.00
Unseal $1,500 early
3.5% × $1,500 = $52.50 → cap is $50
You pay: $50.00
Unseal $5,000 early
3.5% × $5,000 = $175.00 → cap is $75
You pay: $75.00
When exactly is the fee charged?
Only when you unseal an envelope before your goal date. If you wait until your date, there is no fee.
Is the fee deducted from my payout or charged separately?
Deducted from your payout. You receive the unsealed amount minus the Commitment Fee.
Do Group Pacts have different fee rules?
Same 3.5% fee applies, but Group Pact early unseals are full-unseal only (v1). The fee is calculated on the full envelope balance.
Can the fee be waived?
No. The Commitment Fee is the core mechanic that makes Seal work. It's what keeps your money sealed.
